The State Key Laboratory of Polymer Physics and Chemistry (PPCL) pioneered the research on polymer physics and chemistry in China, and has been a major force in the field since the early years. In 2000, after a reorganization which combined the Joint Open Laboratory of Polymer Physics and other relevant polymer programs at Institute of Chemistry (ICCAS) and Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry (CIAC), the State Key Laboratory of Polymer Physics and Chemistry was officially established, jointly operated by the two institutes. It has been rated Excellent in state audits three times in a row since 1995, and received the State Key Laboratory Achievement Award from the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2004.
The faculty at the Changchun branch of the laboratory include 29 professors, among them 1 CAS academician and 1 TWAS academician. Eleven professors have won National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and 10 have been funded by the CAS Hundred Talents Program. The research work is supported by modern instrumentation, which includes XRD, NMR, TEM, and SPM. In between 2000 and 2005, the faculty and staff published 805 papers, 143 of which in journals with SCI impact factor of 3 and above. They are also responsible for 77 issued patents, 10 books, and several national, CAS, and provincial awards.

Complex polymer systems. Microstructures, surface and interface, multi-scale simulation, and ordered structures in soft matters.
Molecular engineering of functional polymers. Environmental friendly polymers, and polymers for biomedical and organic optoelectronics applications.
