The institute admitted its first graduate student in 1956, and since then 2939 students had enrolled in the graduate program, 1236 of them PhD students. The institute was accredited by the State Council to award Matser's and PhD degrees in polymer chemistry and physics, analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, and physical chemistry in 1981, and iorganic chemistry in 1993.
