The 9th International Symposium on Polymer Chemistry (PC2025) was successfully held from October 17 to 21, 2025 in Changchun, China. More than 500 participants from 24 countries and regions attended the event, with international representatives accounting for over 20%.
Sponsored by the State Key Laboratory of Polymer Science and Technology, Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry (CIAC), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the symposium was chaired by Academician Chen Xuesi from CIAC, CAS. Professor Hiroyuki Nishide (Japan), Professor Harm-Anton Klok (Europe) and Professor Brett P. Fors (North America) served as co-chairs, while Researcher Men Yongfeng, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Polymer Science and Technology, acted as executive chair.
At the opening ceremony, Chen Xuesi, Professor Nishide and Liu Jun, Director of CIAC, delivered opening speeches respectively. Subsequently, keynote lectures were given by Academician Jindrich Kopecek from the University of Utah, USA (Member of the US National Academy of Engineering), Academician Stephen Cheng from the University of Akron, USA and South China University of Technology (Member of the US National Academy of Engineering), Professor Naoko Yoshie, Vice President of the University of Tokyo, Japan, and Men Yongfeng. The academic parallel sessions covered 5 themes including Polymer Synthesis & Sustainable Polymers, Optoelectronic & Functional Polymers, Bio-based & Biomedical Polymers, Polymer Structure & Properties, and Polymer Technology & Industry, as well as 3 special forums: ACS Polymer Science Forum, Young Polymer Scientists Forum, and Feng Xinde Polymer Prize Forum. A total of 207 invited reports, 26 session chairs, 56 oral presentations and 47 flash talks were arranged. In addition, 138 posters were collected.
This symposium provided a high-level academic exchange platform for polymer scientists worldwide. Participants showcased the latest research achievements and progress in polymer science, and conducted in-depth discussions on current hot topics and key challenges in the field. It not only provided the potential clues for future development of global polymer science but also offered valuable learning and exchange opportunities for young researchers. The participants highly praised the organization of the symposium. The successful hosting of this event has enhanced the international reputation and academic influence of CIAC and the State Key Laboratory of Polymer Science and Technology.
