According to a research report, there are 150 million people of China have lower sugar tolerance, of whom 90 million of them already show symptoms of diabetes. It has become a vital public health and social problem China is facing.
The CIAC scientists, after years of accumulation, find a plant polysaccharide can control the patients’ body sugar level after they take food. This type of plant polysaccharide is of high molecular weight which is about 400,000. Another feature of it is that it gels under very light concentration.
The scientists said, “The special structure of the polysaccharide will change the digestion kinetics of the food intaken. If the patient has the plant polysaccharide before dinner, his blood sugar peak value will obviously drop.”
The polysaccharide can reduce the patients’ need of insulin during the period when the blood sugar value is at peak; meanwhile alleviate the burden of islet cells. Having it for a long time, the patients’ blood sugar level will be brought down on empty stomach.
The scientists carried on large numbers of experiments both on animals and human. The human trail showed that the polysaccharide have effect on either healthy or people with lower tolerance to sugar. A decrease of 0.5mmol of the blood sugar peak value after dinner have been observed for the former group of people after intaking the polysaccharide, and 1-3mmol for the latter ones.
Besides, the plant polysaccharide found by the CIAC scientists will not be digested or absorbed by the patients, so there is no route for the chemicals to enter the blood. Because there’s no participation of liver or kidney in the discharge process, it is believed to be safe and of no side effects to the human body.
