Bai Chunli, president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), together with Yin Hejun, vice president, and Wu Jianguo, deputy secretary general visited the CIAC on Oct.25, 2012.
Bai first listened to a report from Prof. Zhang Xuequan which generally introduced the principle achievements of the high-performance rubber research, and mainly focused on the progress of Rare earth-based Polyisoprene Rubber (NdIR).
It was been told in Prof. Zhang’s report that by licensing complete sets of industrial technology from CIAC, Shandong Shenchi Petrochem. Co. Ltd. has built 30kt/a rare-earth catalyzed isoprene production facility, and on Sep. 13, 2012, the production line runs successfully with only one trial, establishing a record of the shortest construction period and one trial-one success among the industrial synthetic rubber facilities of the same size. On hearing this, Bai said he was so delighted that the CIAC researchers had made such contributions to the rubber industry of the nation, and he encouraged the researchers to conquer more scientific problems, and speed up the commercialization of high-performance rubber.
During the visit, Bai also visited the exhibition hall of the institute. Prof. An Lijia, director of the CIAC, introduced the “three major breakthroughs” and “five key cultivations” projects.
