At the end of 2014, Hisun Group started to build its new production line of Poly(lactic acid) materials at Taizhou city of Zhejiang Province. The annual production capability is estimated to reach 50,000 tons, and will be the largest PLA production of Asia after completion.
The project was based on CIAC’s technology, like the previous cooperation between CIAC and Hisun, it’s another example of win-win through mutual efforts by industry and research institution. In the 90s, CIAC started to carry on research on biodegradable polymers, aiming at develop an alternative to synthetic fossil-based polymers. In 2005, CIAC helped Hisun launched the nation’s first PLA trial pilot, and in 2008, a 5000 t/y PLA demonstrative line was completed as China’s first, the world’s second to produce more than 1000 tons PLA materials each year.
The project is to start its commercial operation in two years, and the sales volume is to be almost 1.65 billion RMB. It is expected to promote the development of the chemical and pharmaceutical industry.
