After an 11-year interval, the International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE) returned to China to host the Topical Meeting again. The 40th Topical Meeting of ISE was successfully held at the Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry (CIAC), Chinese Academy of Sciences from August 15 to 17, 2025. The conference was co-chaired by Academician Xiurong Yang, Professor Guobao Xu, and Academician Erkang Wang from the State Key Laboratory of Electroanalytical Chemistry at CIAC, with Academician Xiurong Yang delivering the opening speech. ISE former President (Academician Zhongqun Tian), former Vice-Presidents (Prof. Takashi Kakiuchi and Prof. Francesco Paolucci), current Vice-President (Prof. Taek Dong Chung), ISE Director of Conferences and Administration (Mr. Raphael Berger), and Project Coordinator of Administration & Conference Organization (Ms. Maeve Tsu) has attended the meeting. Representatives from the Chinese Society of Electrochemistry were also present, including Director Prof. Wei Xing and Deputy Director Prof. Bin Ren.
The meeting was organized into four thematic sessions: Interfacial Electrochemistry Theory and Characterization Techniques, Electroanalysis and Bioelectrochemistry, Electrocatalysis and Electrosynthesis, and Electrochemical Energy and Processing. The event attracted over 200 participants from 27 countries, with more than half from abroad. Distinguished keynote lectures were delivered by Prof. Francesco Paolucci (University of Bologna, Italy; ISE former Vice-President), Academician Zhiyong Tang (Director of the National Center for Nanoscience and Technology), Academician Zhongqun Tian (Xiamen University; ISE former President), and Prof. Janine Mauzeroll (McGill University; Fellow of the Electrochemical Society, USA). Additionally, the conference featured 137 invited and oral presentations, along with over 60 posters. Participants highly praised the high-quality platform for academic exchange provided by the organizers. Many international attendees visited China for the first time, gaining fresh insights into the nation’s advancements in science and technology. The conference significantly enhanced the depth and breadth of global scientific and cultural collaboration.
