Lecture by Japanese Scientist
On 20 October, an academic lecture with the title of Theoretical Study of the Carbon Nanotube Bundle under the External Stress was delivered at CIAC by Dr. Sasaki Taizo from Computational Materials Science Center, National Institute for Materials Science(NIMS) of Japan.
The carbon nanotube has been referred as a symbolic nano-structured material. The properties of the nanotubes have been often described simply by the size of the tube, especially, in the bundle form. In his lecture, Dr. Taizo introduced his studies on the the structural and the electronic properties of the tubes in the bundle form theoretically, and drew the conclusion from the research that the character of each tube is essential according to the first-principles calculations.
Since 1988, Sasaki Taizo has been working for National Research Institute for Metals of Japan, and became head of the institute in 2000. The next year, he became leader of National Institute for Metals Science. Dr. Taizo is also a member of American Physical Society and the Physical Society of Japan.
