    Prof. Karl F. Freed Visits the CIAC

    On July 11, 2011, Prof. Karl F. Freed visited the CIAC, and delivered a speech entitled “The Descent into Glass Formation in Polymers”.

     Karl F. Freed graduated from Columbia University in 1963, received his Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1967, and served as NATO Postdoctoral Fellow in University of Manchester from 1967 to 1968. He was appointed professor of the University of Chicago in 1968. Prof. Freed is Fellow of American Academy of Arts and Sciences and American Physical Society. He was awarded the Marlow Medal in 1973, and won the Faraday Division of the Royal Chemical Society and the American Chemical Society Award in Pure Chemistry in 1976.

    Prof. Freed’s research include the statistical mechanics of polymers in the liquid phase, protein dynamics aggregation, and folding, equilibrium aggregation phenomena, and molecular electronic structure.
