Prof. Jacques Joosten, Chairman of the Executive Board of the Dutch Polymer Institute, the Netherlands, visits the Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry (CIAC) on May 25-29 to teach the graduate students a special topic course on Fundamentals & Practical Applications of Scattering Methods.

The 3-day course begins with general notions of scattering of electromagnetic radiation by matter and then focuses on static light scattering by polymer and colloidal solutions, and dynamic light scattering (DLS). The last portion of the course is a project group practice in DLS instrument using model polymer systems.

Jacques Joosten studied physics at the University of Eindhoven from 1971 to 1977. He got Ph.D. degree from the Van’t Hoff Laboratory for Physical and Colloid Chemistry at University of Utrecht in 1981. Afterwards, as a teaching and R&D staff, he occupied with Pharmaceutical sciences at the University of Leiden and then with Biophysics at the University of Utrecht until he joined DSM in 1987. Dr. Joosten is now the Director of Corporate Technology, DSM, Member of the R&D-policy Board of DSM, Chairman of the Executive Board of the Dutch Polymer Institute (DPI), and Vice Chairman of the National Chemistry Board in The Netherlands. He is also the visiting professor at Fudan University and Sichuan University of China.
